PRIMARYPLUS WELCOMES SECOND NURSE MIDWIFE TO THE AREA…KELLY GANSTER, MSN, APRN, CNM

(January 20, 2011)  A little over six months from the date of introducing midwifery services to the region, PrimaryPlus is happy to welcome its second nurse midwife, Kelly Ganster, MSN, APRN, CNM, to its medical family.  Kelly will be joining the compassionate OB/GYN staff of Dr. Donald Wilson; Dr. David Doty; Dr. Laura Shower; Dr. Soma Prahdan; Becky Hogge, CNM, APRN; Melissa Redmond, APRN; Katie Young, APRN; Dana Tucker, APRN; and Gwen Webb-RNC, OGNP (who provides women’s health services at PrimaryPlus-Vanceburg).   

Kelly Ganster is a Nurse Practitioner (APRN) and Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), who also holds a Masters in Nursing.  She is a proud graduate of the Frontier School of Nurse Midwifery and Family Nursing in Hyden, KY.  Although originally born in Rochester, NY she has happily settled her roots in Kentucky living in the Northern Kentucky region for the last 14 years.  Kelly is passionate about ensuring women get the health care they need and deserve fitting perfectly with the PrimaryPlus mission of providing advanced, affordable, quality healthcare.

Midwifery care is often associated with that of prenatal care and child birth; however midwives provide a complete range of services including yearly exams, birth control methods, menopausal counseling and more.  The main difference between an OB/GYN physician and a midwife is that a midwife assists in normal births, referring abnormal or risky pregnancies to OB/GYNs.  Midwives also do not do surgical procedures.  PrimaryPlus is very fortunate to have created an OB/GYN TEAM of experienced medical staff consisting of board certified/board eligible physicians, midwifes and nurse practitioners that offers a comprehensive medical range of services to ensure the best care for the patients.
