“Pink + Purple =Power” Honors Breast Cancer & Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The month of October honors both Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence Awareness—although very different issues, they are very similar in that they affect many lives.  Each year nearly 178,000 women and 2,000 men are diagnosed with breast cancer.  Statistics for domestic violence are a little harder to calculate because there are so many descriptions of violence and many cases that go unreported.  Domestic violence statistics range from 960,000 incidents of violence per year inflicted by a spouse and/or partner to 2.5 million women who experience some form of violence each year.  Regardless of the statistics, we know that both breast cancer and domestic violence are issues that do not need to be taken likely.

PrimaryPlus is proud to pay tribute and create awareness for both issues by welcoming guest to participate in its Pink + Purple=Power event on Wednesday, October 29th.  The event will be held at PrimaryPlus-OB/GYN (located at 927 Kenton Station Dr) anytime between 11 AM and 2 PM.  The event will include refreshments, educational material, prizes, and a FREE Breast Cancer Awareness T-Shirt to anyone who brings in a donation for the Women’s Crisis Center (items needed for donation are listed below).  T-Shirts are available to the first 100 participants (only one t-shirt per participant).  Honor ribbons will also be available to place names/initials/messages for a “Wall of Power” that will be created to show support towards those who have been affected by either breast cancer or domestic violence.

“Power is the name of the game for this event...the power of our voices, the power to stand tall and over come these issues...the power of family and friends...and the power of community,” states Tracy McGuire, Marketing and Community Relations Director for PrimaryPlus. “We are pleased to be able to create awareness through this event and also be able to give back to such an essential organization in the area, the Women’s Crisis Center.”
